10 U.S. Code § 8321: Commissioned officers with at least 40 years of service shall be retired upon their request.
If a Soldier is coming up on their ETS, they are blocked from reenlisting unless the bar is lifted. If a bar to reenlistment is in place when a Soldier ETSs, they will be given an Honorable Discharge.
