Nonresidents. If you're a nonresident with an annual Massachusetts gross income of more than either $8,000 or the prorated personal exemption, whichever is less, you must file a Massachusetts tax return. You are an individual nonresident if you are neither a full-year or part-year resident.
If you live in a state without individual income taxes, you won't need to pay taxes on your wages or income from Social Security, pensions, or retirement plans, such as 401(k)s or an individual retirement account (IRA).
(Massachusetts AGI) is $8,000 or less if single, $14,400 or less plus $1,000 per dependent if head of household, or $16,400 or less plus $1,000 per depen- dent if married filing a joint return, you qualify for No Tax Status and are not required to pay any Massachu- setts income taxes.
