The Division has an opening for a member of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, an Emergency Medical Services officer, an agent conducting investigations into criminal or administrative offenses from criminal records, a member of the Fire Protection Agency, an Emergency Medical Services officer, any member of the Department of Public Safety or a public safety employee to engage in research on the following subject matters: 1. Is it possible that a member of the public will experience a life-threatening reaction to a medical crisis (that is, is it possible a member of the public will be injured due to a medical crisis, not just a possible death)? This research is part of the Division of EMS Trauma Researcher program, and it is intended to establish the incidence of serious reactions in emergency responder and public safety employees in the event of a medical crisis. 2. What types of incidents have the potential for serious reactions in emergency medical services workers? 3. What are the differences in the incidence of life-threatening reactions in emergency medical services workers and in the general population? 4. What are the clinical patterns of serious reactions to medical crises in emergency medical service workers vs in the general population? 5. What are the risk factors that lead to serious reactions in emergency medical services workers? This research will analyze the risk factors that occur in Emergency Medical Services workers during medical crises in order to identify which factors may be effective in preventing serious reactions. 6. What is the most dangerous incident for an Emergency Medical Services provider to undergo as part of their career? This research will study the incidents that result in the most serious medical crises among Emergency Medical Services providers using state and federally funded data. 7. What type of accident or trauma causes the most serious medical crises in Emergency Medical Services workers? 8. What type of medical crisis is the most likely to lead to serious reactions in a medical emergency worker? 9. What factors impact response to a medical crisis for Emergency Medical Services providers? 10.
