Hi this is Marty from Blue Lightning TV I'm going to show you how to recreate a custom star and medallion that looks like the ones on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for this example I created one for Dick Weber who is one of the most famous professional bowlers of the 1960s we'll start with a document that's 23 by 13 inches with a resolution of 72 pixels per inch we'll use this Michael Jackson star as a template you can download this picture by using the link I included in the description of this video hide the template and make the background active go to filter noise and add noise make the amount 400% Gaussian and monochromatic go back to filter blur and Gaussian blur will blur it by one pixel press CTRL or command + L to call up the levels window and change the input shadows to 196 and the input highlights to 198 change the output dark value to 13 and the output light values to 180 clicks on the eyeball of the template to make it visible and click on the new layer icon to make a new layer click on the horizontal single row marquee tool and click on the top tile line of the template hold shift and click on the bottom line call up your vertical single column marquee tool and go to the left tile line press shift and click down now go to the right tile line press shift and click down as well go to edit and Stroke will stroke it by 2 pixels will Center it and click on the color box to pick a color I'm choosing a 70 percent gray click OK and then click OK again then delete the selection in the layers panel click on the FX icon and choose bevel and emboss we'll use inner bevel and chisel check contour and click OK click off the eyeball of the template to hide it and go to the tile line layer and press CTRL or command as you click on it this will call up its selection then click on the layer mask icon which will make a layer mask of the selection click on the layer to make it active we're going to brush in some highlights in the tile lines to give them a metallic reflective quality press D to make your foreground and background colors black and white respectively and press X to invert them now with white as our foreground color press B to call up your brush tool, and we'll change the opacity to 100% and the blend mode to normal now brush over some areas of the tile lines to brighten them click on the new layer icon and make the template visible call up your pen tool and click on one of the points of the star press shift and click on the opposite point pressing shift holds the work path to horizontal vertical or 45-degree angles continue clicking on points of the star to create a work path of this shape to close the path click on the starting point right-click on the work path and choose make selection keep the feather radius at 0 pixels press Q to make the selection into a quick mask make sure white is your foreground color and press G to call up your paint bucket click inside the center of the star two or three times to ensure all the quick mask within...
