AQI values at or below 100 are generally thought of as satisfactory. When AQI values are above 100, the air quality is considered unhealthy: at first for certain sensitive groups of people, then for everyone as the AQI values get higher. The AQI is divided into six categories.
An air quality index (AQI) is an indicator developed by government agencies to communicate to the public how polluted the air currently is or how polluted it is forecast to become. As air pollution levels rise, so does the AQI, along with the associated public health risk.
"Good" AQI is 0 - 50. Air quality is considered satisfactory, and air pollution poses little or no risk. "Moderate" AQI is 51 - 100. Air quality is acceptable; however, for some pollutants there may be a moderate health concern for a very small number of people.
Some of the commonly used adjectives for 'Air' include fresh, breezy, still, polluted, pure, moist, heavy, warm, arid, humid, and several others. All these adjectives are used to describe the quality of the air and how people perceive it on a daily basis.
In most cases, some experts recommend testing air quality if you're concerned about specific pollutants, not to assess general air quality.
How does the AQI work? Daily AQI ColorLevels of ConcernValues of Index Green Good 0 to 50 Yellow Moderate 51 to 100 Orange Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups 101 to 150 Red Unhealthy 151 to 2002 more rows
For each pollutant an AQI value of 100 generally corresponds to an ambient air concentration that equals the level of the short-term national ambient air quality standard for protection of public health. AQI values at or below 100 are generally thought of as satisfactory.
