The Hampton Butte and Cougar Well Wilderness Study Areas (WSA) are in Crook and Deschutes County, approximately 60 miles southeast of Bend, Oregon, and about 180 miles southeast of Portland, Oregon. U.S. Highway 20 is less than 4 miles south of the study areas.
If you're in southern Oregon, try BLM around Medford. If you're in Northern, Hampton Butte by Bend. Eugene Oregon also has some stuff. I have tried the coast so many times and never once have I found Pet Wood there. Lots of jade and beautiful quartz mixes though.
Hampton Butte wood is distinguished by outer portions colored a rich brown and white mix with interior cores of multi-colored agate, jasper or common opal. The highly prized green colors are thought to be a result of localized oxidation and reduction of iron content while the wood fossilized.
Hampton Buttes is a small range of mountains or hills in the U.S. state of Oregon. The range lies mostly in Crook County but extends south and west into Deschutes County in Central Oregon near the unincorporated community of Hampton. U.S. Route 20, an east–west highway, skirts the range to the south.
