You have completed course work at an accredited college or university. The work that you have completed at your previous/current institution(s) is of similar rigor and content to the course offerings available at Michigan. You have earned a grade of C or better while completing it.
The Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) provides for transferability of 30 semester credits to meet many (and in some cases all) of the general education requirements at participating Michigan colleges and universities. Additional information is available through the Counseling & Academic Advising Office.
Typically, you need a “C” grade or better for a course to transfer. A “D” grade may be accepted on a case-by-case basis depending on the college's flexibility, but in most cases, it will be denied.
All undergraduates must earn at least 128 credits in order to graduate. At least 60 credits must be earned in residence at Boston University, and you can transfer in a maximum of 68 credits. A maximum of 16 credits of “D” grades earned at Boston University can be applied toward the credits you need for your degree.
Only courses with a grade of C or better will be accepted for transfer credit. This includes all transferable credit earned outside the University of Michigan. Except for courses from UM-Dearborn and UM-Flint, grades for classes taken at other institutions do not transfer and will not factor into a student's U-M GPA.
Up to 60 credits may be transferred from other colleges and universities to count toward the 120 required for a LSA degree.
While students naturally desire the smooth transfer of their hard-earned credits to maximize the value of their education, the final decision to accept or reject credits is ultimately determined by each institution's discretion.
