All exposed steam and hot-water pipes within 7 feet of the floor or working platform or within 15 inches measured horizontally from stairways, ramps, or fixed ladders shall be covered with an insulating material, or guarded in such manner as to prevent contact.
Angle grinders generate sparks. When required obtain a hot work permit before use. Keep work area clear of debris and flammable materials. Do NOT use in areas where there is grain dust or other combustible dust accumulation.
In order to obtain a Hot Work Permit, contractors must coordinate with their project manger to meet with the Fire Prevention Officer at the Department of Environmental Health & Safety & Risk Management Services, CSC 162.
The employer shall instruct all employees involved in hot work operations as to potential fire hazards and the use of firefighting equipment. Drums and containers which contain or have contained flammable or combustible liquids shall be kept closed. Empty containers shall be removed from the hot work area.
