Grade Forgiveness Policy. Undergraduate students are subject to the following conditions and requirements. Students who receive a grade of C– or lower (grades of C-, D+, D, D-, F, and WF) may repeat up to five courses to improve the overall grade point average. Only the first five repeated courses will be forgiven.
Academic forgiveness allows you to retake the exact same class and if you get an AC, replace the previous D or F on your transcript with FGD or FGF (forgiven D or forgiven F), which do not count toward GPA. If you don't successfully retake the class, forgiveness doesn't do anything.
When you earn a better grade the second or third time, you may be eligible for Grade Forgiveness, which allows you to replace the previous grade with the new one. This means that the old grade will be taken out of your GPA, however all attempts will still appear on your transcript.
Sometimes after years or if there were extenuating circumstances you can get them removed, but that is unlikely. Some places will replace a failing grade in your GPA when you re-take the class and earn a higher grade, but not everywhere, and sometimes they average the two grades.
To use Grade Forgiveness students should re-enroll in the course they intend to repeat and submit the Grade Forgiveness petition form before the last day to drop that course without petitioning (usually the 10th Friday of the term for full semester classes).
You can only apply grade forgiveness to up to three (3) courses during your undergraduate career. Be strategic about which courses you petition for grade forgiveness. Once a grade forgiveness petition is approved and you earn a final grade in the second attempt, you cannot cancel your petition.
