The La Jolla Cove Swim is an open water swim event that includes a 1-mile swim, 250-meter swim for kids, 3-mile swim, and 4-mile swim. It is the second oldest open water swim in the United States. 2023 will mark 107 years since the first race was held.
An entry time is the best time your swimmer has for each event. These entry times are used to rank the swimmers ing to speed so that each swimmer will compete with those of like abilities. If you have never swum an event, enter “NT” for “No Time” or ask your coach for the entry time you should use.
Starter's command “Take your Marks”,they shall immediately take up a starting position with at least one foot at the front of the starting platforms. The position of the hands is not relevant. When all swimmers are stationary, the Starter shall give the starting signal.
Let the swimmers relax for a short time, then “Ladies/Gentlemen Step Up Please” (“Place Your Feet Please” for backstroke) or the long Referee whistle, then make a generic announcement about assuming the starting position without delay, then pause and say “Take Your Mark.”
? The starter will then blow a long whistle with varying pitch, this is the swimmers signal to get up onto the starting block or into the water and into their starting position ? Once all swimmers are in their starting positions and still, the starter will give the command "Take Your Marks" (remember to keep still)
Command: On the long whistle from the referee, swimmers step onto the starting platform or, in the case of the backstroke and medley relay races, enter the water. On the starter's command — "take your mark" — swimmers immediately take a starting position, with at least one foot at the front of the starting platform.
When the swimmers appear ready, the referee will signal with an outstretched arm to the starter for the start to commence. The starter only says "TAKE-YOUR-MARK" and when all are motionless, gives the starting signal.
Swimmers are selected as Scholastic All-Americans if they completed 10th, 11th or 12th grade, and achieve a 3.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale, and have swum a pool time equal to a Junior National bonus time in any event during the SAA qualifying period.
