Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) has saved hundreds of lives during our nation's conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) is developed by the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Health Agency (DHA) Joint Trauma System (JTS) to teach evidence-based, life-saving techniques and strategies for providing the best trauma care on the battlefield. NAEMT conducts TCCC courses as specified by the DHA-JTS.
TCCC-All Combatants (TCCC-AC) is training for first responders and non- medical personnel. TCCC training is performed in three phases: Care under fire (CUF), tactical field care (TFC), and tactical evacuation care (TEC) (for more information, see Chapter 2, Tactical Combat Casualty Care Phases of Care).
The TCCC Guidelines state that the basic management plan for Care Under Fire is: Return fire and take cover. Direct the casualty to remain engaged as a combatant if appropriate. Direct the casualty to move to cover and apply self-aid if able.
*This course is only open to military personnel or law enforcement. TCCC for Combat Medics / Corpsmen focuses on the three phases of military tactical care CUF, TFC, and TACEVAC.
