John Gorman's Presentation A presentation by Dr. John Gorman. We spoke at some length about evolution and the age of the moon. This is a great presentation. We also discussed recent discoveries in the evolution of complex micro-organisms, and how new genetic tools may allow us to extend our understanding of microbial biodiversity. Dr. Gorman is on the faculty of the University of Utah (Salt Lake City). He has published widely in phylogenetic analyses of micro-organisms, their relationship to fungi, and the origin of life. July Annual Meeting Mr. Dan Cooper's July Annual Presentation The paleontological field is always in flux and progress, but one of the areas you can expect to see a lot of in future years is the paleontological literature. There have always been paleontological magazines, but today there are even more, which means we'll be able to follow developments in these topics well. In this case, paleontologists are interested in the age and paleo skeleton of fossils, and sometimes what their purpose was. In this case, the paleontologist who has most recently developed the technique to age a fossil is David Dealer of the Royal Ontario Museum in Canada, who presents his work at the July Annual Meeting. We were both very impressed by his work. He was very gracious, and he answered all our questions with enthusiasm. He was able to provide clear directions on how to do his work and where to find relevant material which would be helpful. Furthermore, he is well respected in the paleontological community and will have a large following in the coming year if this is in fact his last presentation.
