Overview. In this one-year training program for Physician Assistants, our mission is to provide a comprehensive foundation to support PA resident growth in becoming well-trained, critical care providers. This is done through didactic training, hands-on simulation and a multitude of clinical rotations.
Length: Three years.
An Emergency Medicine Residency can take up to three to four years to complete. The length of the residency depends on the specific medical residency that is obtained. Most specialties offer fellowship training once residency is completed. A fellowship is typically one to three years based on the specialty.
Applicants must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), which is sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges. Applications are accepted through ERAS beginning July 1st of the year that the applicant is applying (i.e.,12 months prior to anticipated start of fellowship training).
This pathway requires 2 years of training, with a minimum of 12 months dedicated to clinical experiences (6 of these months must involve caring for critically ill medical patients).
All certification-track fellowships are two years in length. The advantages of a two-year fellowship are that it: 1) allows more training and diversity in your education, 2) puts you on an equal standing with other intensivists, and 3) gets you certified.
