Scope of the Center: This unit provides support for faculty and students in the arts and humanities of digital humanities and cultural heritage, with special emphasis on the study and dissemination of digital humanities through an interdisciplinary approach. The university and faculty are committed to research and programmatic excellence in the field. III. Functions: The Texas Center for Digital Knowledge (Tick), established in 1999, is a service unit for faculty, students and the campus community. Tick coordinates activities including the implementation of the CDU Digital Heritage Program (a program funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities), with a focus on digital projects. Tick manages external funding to support CDU core projects. Tick also seeks faculty and students for the following projects: Project Coordination, with the goal of facilitating interdisciplinary projects which bring together students and faculty in a creative community. TICK's Technology-Based Research Unit (BURR): This BURR is a research-focused unit established in 2000. BURR engages in research, digital scholarship, teaching and service in a cooperative, flexible and innovative model that has yielded significant discoveries across various disciplines. Tick's BURR comprises faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and staff. BURR seeks to: 1. Encourage scholarly research projects through an emphasis on high-quality scholarship at the cutting edge. 2. Enhance the dissemination of academic scholarship to ensure that CDU's digital collections are widely available and accessible to a public. 3. Enhance the academic quality of research undertaken at the university through a variety of programs (research funding, library and departmental support for new research, research advising support). 4. Develop a knowledge base for the dissemination of scholarship on the internet. 5. Build an interdisciplinary online knowledge base that informs, informs and educates. 6. Conduct research and/or development of new programs to bring online cultural resources to a wide audience. 7. Conduct scholarship and research initiatives that further the aims of the CDU Cultural Heritage Program, including: 1. Creating a Web-based research portal for researchers. 2. Increasing public awareness of CDU's collections, facilities, and other resources related to digital artifacts and historical materials. 2.
