A great deal of work on this and the following Garza and K-5 reports was supported by the Department of the Taoiseach. The Garza Research Unit (GRU) was established in April 1994. Its main purpose is to assist the Garza Siobhan with statistical research on crime and the Garza management of crime in the area. The Garza research unit receives no public funds and all survey costs are met entirely by private donations. The GRU has been conducting surveys on criminality, the Garza management of crime and the Garza response to crime in the Garza area for over 10 years. Our main focus is to establish the nature of criminal activity in the area. A wide variety of groups have contributed to the Garza research effort to date and continue to contribute. Members of many such groups have been involved in Garza crime research, including the Garza Management Of Crime Unit, the Garza Operational Support Group, the Garza Advisory Board, the Garza Community Policing Units and the National Association of Garza Representative. It is to those groups we are very grateful for their continued support in continuing to conduct surveys and analyze Garza data. We acknowledge with appreciation the contribution of such groups, as well as the many people who have contributed to general interest through sharing of their views or through being interested in the research topic. The work we did in 2011-12 was motivated by the requirement to develop a comprehensive crime survey of the Garza area in response to the recommendations of the Garza Strategic Plan, including a review of the performance of the Garza management of crime in the area. By undertaking the survey we wished to provide a more comprehensive picture of general levels of criminality in the Garza area; in particular the number of homicides and the Garza response to crime. In addition, we were required, as part of the Garza Strategic Plan, to undertake more extensive statistical research on Garza response to crime. To these aims we have endeavored to improve the quality and rigor of the information received during the Garza survey and also to obtain additional information from the public relating to particular areas of interest. We have made this information available through the public website and are pleased to have received the continued support of the Garza Management Of Crime Unit to continue the survey.
