REQUIRED TO TAKE: The course is an introduction to statistics within the context of introductory calculus. It is also an introduction to the theory of distributions and to the concept of a multivariate distribution. In addition, the course gives an introduction to the mathematics of probability to the theory of hypothesis tests. The course is taken from one of the following two sources. In one, the instructor writes all the answers and answers the questionnaires. In the other, the course is entirely written and distributed by the instructor. In the first case, the course requires an official transcript, a letter of intent, and the results of the course on grade point average and the number of questions answered. The course is taught in one of three formats. A one-credit course is taught using a PowerPoint presentation format (8.5 to 15 minutes). A one-credit course is presented as 15 minutes, but the instructor may choose to vary the length of the presentation and present the test in the lecture hall. The course slides are available and students are encouraged to study and copy slides before class. In either case, instructors assume full responsibility for students' use of the materials provided. Students should not feel restricted in the choices they make. The course is presented using a traditional textbook of the first year calculus curriculum. This includes an explanation of the different parts of the calculus structure using examples. The lecture is a continuation of the material in the textbook. The lecture is also used to introduce concepts in the first quarter of the course. In the second, third, and fourth quarters, students use the textbook for the material covered in lecture. This method has been very effective, it allows students to see the material more clearly, and also allows the instructor to add new material quickly and without sacrificing what makes the textbook the best introduction to calculus for the first year. In the second and third course formats, the first four quarters are presented as a series of small one-credit classes in a lecture hall, which are followed by a one-credit exam in the following quarter. This way, students can study material more rapidly during the course and then get the exam in the following quarter. The exam has the following questions (in part): 1. Which of the following is the sum of two odd numbers: 2.2 3.4? 4.6 5.
