If you have a large quantity of books or media to donate, please call 510-841-5604. All items should be in good condition. The Friends' Bookstores are staffed by over one hundred volunteers. Additional volunteers are always welcome.

The Library welcomes donations of books and other materials; however, we ask that you call the library branch of your choice before bringing in any donations. The Library reserves the right to refuse donations due to space limitations or the condition of the materials.
Yes. Libraries have the right to lend books, sell books, and give books. We bought the book and have the same rights as any other book buyer. We do not have any rights above or beyond what other buyers do, but we also have no fewer rights.
If you would like to donate books, please call your local branch library to see if they are able to accept donations at this time. Needed titles will be added to the Library's collections. Other titles will be sold at branch book sales, with the proceeds benefiting the Library.
We also accept donations of gently used books and DVDs throughout the year. If the items are not added to the collection, they would go into our spring or fall book sale. We do not accept encyclopedias, textbooks, VHS tapes, very old books, or things that have mold, mildew, or damage.
