RIDING LEVELS BEGINNER. A rider with little or no experience who is unable to post the trot and does not canter. NOVICE. INTERMEDIATE. STRONG INTERMEDIATE AND/OR ADVANCED.
Riding levels BEGINNERS. For novice riders, these walks will give beginners the chance to get used to being in the saddle. INTERMEDIATE. For intermediate riders who are at ease at 2 paces (walk and rising trot and are starting to canter in a forward seat) out in open countryside. EXPERIENCED. ADVANCED.
Level 1 – Beginner: You have not sat on a horse before or only tried riding a few times. Level 2 – Intermediate: You can ride a horse independently in all gaits and have tried jumping. Level 3 – Intermediate Plus: You have experience of jumping single fences. Level 4 – Advanced: You can jump a simple course.
Level 1 – Beginner: You have tried riding before. Level 2 – Intermediate: On a stable horse you can walk, trot and gallop over different terrain. Level 3 – Advanced: You can ride different types of horses independently and are in good physical condition.
NOVICE: A rider who has had minimum 6 lessons and is comfortable and in control at the walk and/or trot but is not horse fit and has limited experience trotting and/or cantering.
RIDING ABILITY - LEVEL 1 In general, a beginner/novice hasn't learned how to canter and has not yet mastered rising trot. They are able to mount safely and to control a horse at a walk.
English riders can achieve Learn to Ride English Levels 1 through 10. Each level requires a written exam and a practical assessment with a Stable Management phase and a Riding phase. Level 3 onward also includes an optional Jumping phase. Western riders can achieve Levels 1 through 4, and Western Intermediate Rider.
