The need for leaders who are able to work in cultures across religious denominations, ethnicities, and national contexts is becoming increasingly urgent. An extensive field training program is offered annually. This program is open to students at all stages of their training and has the potential to transform lives. This unique opportunity to work with a community at a cross-cultural level gives students an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience in community setting. TWU's Canadian Intercultural Training Program is one of the few comprehensive academic cross-cultural training programs in the Western world. During the four- to six-week program, students work for one hour a week in a small, multi-ethnic church community. This experience will allow them to develop the skills to meet the complex challenges in multi-ethnic congregations. A unique feature of intercultural training is the training in multi-cultural leadership. This is a unique experience that provides students with the tools and knowledge to enable them to have a leadership role in their respective congregation, work at multi-cultural churches (including dioceses, ethnic communities and the national church), and in other settings such as government, media, business, and the public sector. This program can only be offered by TWU. While the program is offered at two campuses, each TWU campus has local coordinators who work closely with local churches to offer the required field training. TWU's Cross-Cultural Training Program is specifically designed to equip its students with the academic, cultural, and practical skills needed to meet the ever-increasing demand for a wide variety of leaders at different levels of organizational development in the field of intercultural relations and development. THE SCHEDULE AND METHODS OF THE PHILOSOPHY TRAINING Program A. The Philosophy Training Program is a combination of two intensive four-week sessions which culminate in a one-year graduate program. In- class attendance is mandatory. A maximum of 10% of the program enrollment is admitted each year. Program B. The Philosophy and Critical Thinking Training is a one-year graduate program with a two-year requirement. It can be taken consecutively or concurrently with the Philosophy Training Program. The philosophy and critical thinking component of the program is completed in the one-year training. For students with one year left to complete the Philosophy and Critical Thinking Training it is expected that all those individuals who were on the program when it was four-week training, will have completed the program by the end of their first year.
