Of the 3,000 scholarships awarded annually, 90 are reserved for students who have received a temporary resident visa as a member of the student class under the federal Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
These allocations are based on the 3,000 CGS M awards available each year: there are 795 CGS M awards available from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), 840 from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), of which 20 are allocated to fund meritorious Indigenous scholars, and

OGS awards are open to applicants in all disciplines of academic study (research-based AND course-based* programs). QEII-GSST awards are restricted to applicants in research-based graduate programs in a STEM discipline only (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Each award is jointly funded by the Province of Ontario (two thirds) and the school offering the award (one third).
