A fifth revision was released on January 2, 2014, designed to be administered on Pearson VUE, a proprietary computer-based testing platform. The new test applies to the United States and internationally, but not to Canada, which used the 2002 version. As of May 2024, Canada discontinued the GED.
Math is often considered the hardest GED subject due to its complex problem-solving and critical-thinking requirements.
The test contains questions from these 3 categories: Reading 45%; Writing 35%; Grammar 20%. If you are good at writing essays and you can score the maximum number of points, you need to answer 32 questions correctly. But if you are NOT, and your essay will get 0 points, you need to answer 42 questions correctly.
Request your transcripts in person if you live nearby. Certain states, such as CA and GA, have GED Testing Centers where you can fill out the request form and pay the fee in person.
Format of the RLA Test The entire test takes 150 minutes with a 10-minute break between sections two and three. There will be one written essay (extended response), which you will have 45 minutes to complete. There are also different question types including multiple-choice, drag and drop, select an area and drop down.
Reasoning through Language Arts and Social Studies have comparable pass rates, so it's safe to say that these sections are the same in difficulty range, generally speaking. The Math GED subtest has a much lower pass rate, so we may say that this part is significantly more challenging for many students.
However, if you take the exam with little practice and no knowledge of the format, you're bound to find yourself struggling. On its own, the language arts GED test is pretty easy. Even if you only have a grip on basic English language skills and concepts, you can still do exceptionally well on the test.
