The zoo is owned by the City of Lansing, and operated by Ingham County. The zoo participates in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan (SSP) designed to manage and conserve threatened or endangered animals.
Potter Park Zoo is an AZA-accredited zoo with over 350 animals, many of which are endangered.
It's maybe a two hour excursion maximum, although nice. Sometimes parking is free, sometime they have fun events! Definitely worth the visit. Potter Park Zoo is small but well organized and a great afternoon outing for young children, without being too tiring.
75% of the exhibits were “under renovation” and had no animals in it. We walked thru entire zoo (and this included stopping and having a rest in shade as it was a warm day) in 45 minutes. There were hardly any animals out on exhibit.
It takes approximately three hours to visit the Zoo. Our Education Animal Ambassadors are ready to meet your group. Choose from a variety of exciting up-close animal encounter presentations.
