Professionals certified at the BCaBA level may not provide behavior-analytic services without the supervision of a BCBA. BCaBAs may supervise the work of Registered Behavior Technician® (RBT®) certificants. They may also function in the role of an RBT. Certificants may hold only one BACB certification at a time.
As highly trained professionals, BCBA's have a broader scope of practice and greater responsibilities compared to BCaBA's. BCBA's are qualified to design, implement, and supervise behavior analysis programs for individuals with autism.
Many times, people obtain their BCaBA first and then get their BCBA certification once they further their education and gain experience in the field.
BCaBA Pathway 1 You must also have completed 1,300 hours of supervised fieldwork or 1,000 hours of concentrated supervised fieldwork. BCBA candidates need a minimum of 1,500 hours of supervised experience, including at least 75 hours of face-to-face supervision from a qualified BCBA. BCaBA candidates require 1,000 hours of supervised experience, with at least 50 hours of face-to-face supervision.
Supervision Contract. These documents should be retained for at least 7 years from the date of the final supervision meeting. Disputes about the supervisory relationships should first be addressed directly between the supervisor and the trainee.
