Change Grading Option: Between the third and tenth week of instruction, students change the grading option with the approval of the dean of the student's major; these changes are made via Enrollment Exceptions, which is available in Student Access.
You may change your initial grading option any time in CalCentral before the deadline to change grading option. After the session ends, changing the grading option is no longer possible. Log in to CalCentral, click on the "My Academics" tab, and select "Enrollment Center" on the Class Enrollment Card.
Courses in which a grade of D or F has been awarded may not be repeated on a P/NP or S/U basis. (Graduate students must petition and receive approval in advance to repeat a course.) Undergraduate students may repeat a course in which a grade of NP has been awarded for a P/NP or letter grade, if applicable.
Grade Forgiveness Occasionally students repeat courses to improve their cumulative Extended Studies GPA. In such circumstances, you may petition to have an original grade “forgiven”.
After the Applicant Portal opens in October, applicants can update their choice of major and college ranking until January 31.
Courses with an optional grading basis allow students (not instructors) to choose either a Letter grade or a Passed/Not Passed grade (for undergraduates) or Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory grade (for graduate students).
