Residence Requirement A minimum of 64 units toward the bachelor's degree must be earned in residence at USC, with the following exceptions: students earning a bachelor's degree in architecture must earn 80 units in residence; students in engineering's “3-2” program must earn at least 48 units in residence.
USC's approved exams and recommended minimums are: TOEFL (or TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition) with a minimum score of 100 and no less than a score of 20 in each section. * IELTS (or IELTS Indicator) score of 7.
You may apply for housing even if you have not yet committed to enroll at USC. Housing assignments are made during the summer on a first-come, first-served basis, so students who plan to enroll at USC are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
On-campus housing at USC can cost upwards of $1,200 per month, and that often includes shared rooms and limited amenities. In contrast, off-campus apartments — especially those shared with roommates — can reduce monthly costs significantly, with average rates ranging between $800 and $900 per person.
In addition, the following items may not be used in university housing: “glow in the dark” stickers, contact paper (except in drawers), torchiere halogen lamps, decorative lights, candles, barbecues or hibachis (in rooms or on balconies), hot plates, toaster ovens, or other cooking appliances in rooms without kitchens.
The earlier you apply, the greater the likelihood you will receive one of your building, room type or program preferences. This is particularly true for freshman and graduate buildings in high demand. Only admitted students may apply, and it's a good idea to apply as soon as you are admitted.
First-year freshmen (defined by USC Housing as recent high school graduates with no college credits), whose housing applications are received by USC Housing on or before May 1, are guaranteed housing.
For every 100 applicants, only 12 are admitted. This means the school is extremely selective. Meeting their GPA requirements and SAT/ACT requirements is very important to getting past their first round of filters and proving your academic preparation.
