How to fill out check one or both

To fill out a check and indicate whether one or both parties should receive payment, follow these steps:
01
Start by writing the current date on the designated line at the top right corner of the check. This should be the date when you are filling out the check.
02
On the line labeled "Pay to the Order of," write the name of the recipient or payee. This can be an individual or a business that you want to make the payment to.
03
Below the payee's name, you will find a space with the dollar sign ($). Write the payment amount in numbers in this space, ensuring that the amount is accurate and matches the written amount later in the check.
04
After writing the payment amount in numbers, you will find another line where you need to write the payment amount in words. This is important to avoid any confusion or potential fraud. For example, if the payment amount is $100, write "One hundred dollars" on this line.
05
Now, you will see a box on the right side of the check, next to the payment amount in numbers. This is where you indicate whether one or both parties should receive the payment. If you want to pay only one person or entity, leave this box empty. If you want to split the payment between two parties, write "and" or use an ampersand (&) to separate the names or entities.
06
Move to the lower-left corner of the check, where you will find a line labeled "Memo" or "For." This line is optional but can be used to note the purpose of the payment, such as "Rent," "Services," or "Invoice #123."
07
Finally, before handing out the check, ensure that the rest of the check, including the signature line on the bottom right corner, is properly completed. Sign your name exactly as it appears on the front of your bank account.
Who needs to check one or both?
Individuals or businesses who wish to split a payment between two parties can indicate this by filling out the "Pay to the Order of" line with both names and marking the box provided to divide the payment. This can be useful in situations where two individuals or entities are owed money jointly or when splitting expenses evenly between multiple parties is required. The decision to check one or both depends on the specific payment arrangement and the agreement between the involved parties.
