Who is not eligible for CPT?
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is a temporary work authorization for international students on F-1 visas. It allows international students to work off-campus during their academic program after one year of full-time study.
Is CPT subtracted from OPT?
CPT requires a signed cooperative agreement or a letter from your employer. If you have 12 months or more of full-time CPT, you are ineligible for OPT, but part-time CPT is fine and will not stop you from doing OPT.
Can CPT and OPT overlap?
CPT and OPT are separate, distinct work authorizations. Therefore, they can't overlap. CPT must be completed before graduation as part of your academic curriculum. However, OPT can be used both pre- and postgraduation.
Does CPT take away from OPT?
Who is not eligible for CPT? Students who have received a program extension to extend the end date on the I-20; the ISSS advisor will need to discuss the nature of your program extension to determine whether CPT will further delay your completion of studies. Can I use CPT after OPT?
Students cannot use CPT as a way to continue OPT/STEM OPT employment that has since ended. CPT must be an integral part of the new degree program's established curriculum.
