ELIGIBILITY To qualify for the HPSP scholarship, you must: Be a U.S. citizen with a baccalaureate degree from an accredited school. Be enrolled in or have a letter of acceptance or intent from an accredited graduate program located in the United States or Puerto Rico.
The purpose of the PHSP is to strengthen the public health workforce by providing support to organizations to develop scholarship programs that incentivize individuals to pursue training and careers in public health.
As scholarships go, I think the SMART Scholarship is very attainable. During my year, 4000 people applied and 300 were awarded the scholarship. That's about 8% of applicants, which is pretty good. Don't forget, you can apply every year.
The number of available HPSP scholarships is limited and can vary from year to year based on the needs of the military. The limited availability of scholarships makes this program highly competitive, especially when there are many highly qualified individuals applying for the program.
All in all, taper your expectations. Don't expect winning the NHSC scholarship to be a cakewalk. The number of students winning the award will most like fall in line with the typical numbers (~150 students) or about 10% of scholarship applicants.
The NHSC scholarship application process is highly competitive. Each year, there are more than 1,800 applications from hundreds of schools from across the country. Approximately 10 percent of the applicants receive the scholarship award.
Please note 2025 scholarships are only available to graduating high school seniors with a GPA of 2.75 or higher. Please include acceptance letter or some other proof of acceptance or enrollment if you have received one. Can be found on monthly electric bill. Member must be the parent or legal guardian of the applicant.
