How to fill out lab activity- blood pressure

How to fill out lab activity- blood pressure:

01
Start by gathering all the necessary equipment. This typically includes a blood pressure cuff, a stethoscope, and a pen and paper or a computer for recording the measurements.
02
Sit in a quiet and comfortable space with good lighting. Make sure you are relaxed and not feeling stressed or anxious, as these factors can potentially affect your blood pressure readings.
03
Prepare the blood pressure cuff by wrapping it snugly around your upper arm, just above the elbow. It should be positioned at the same level as your heart.
04
Locate the brachial artery, which is usually found on the inside of your arm, slightly above the elbow crease. This is where you will place the stethoscope.
05
Position the earpieces of the stethoscope into your ears and place the diaphragm or bell (depending on the type of stethoscope) over the brachial artery.
06
Inflate the blood pressure cuff by squeezing the bulb or pressing the electric pump until it reaches a level above your normal blood pressure. This is typically around 180-200 mmHg.
07
Slowly release the pressure in the cuff by opening the valve or releasing the bulb. As the pressure reduces, you will start hearing the heartbeat through the stethoscope.
08
Note the reading on the pressure gauge when you first hear a faint rhythmic sound. This is the systolic pressure, which represents the force exerted on the arterial walls when the heart contracts.
09
Continue to slowly release the pressure until the sound disappears completely. Take note of the reading at this point, which represents the diastolic pressure. It indicates the force when the heart is at rest between beats.
10
Once you have obtained both the systolic and diastolic pressures, record them accurately in the designated space on the lab activity form.
