The 3-Man Arena Sorting Competition is the first event of Riverton Town Days each year! Watch as teams of three horse riders try to move cattle across a line in a certain order. One or more team members goes in to the herd of 10 cows and works to sort out the specific numbered cow that is called.
A team of 3 riders attempt to draft 10 head of cattle through a gate in numerical order. The cattle are drafted from a herd of 12 cattle in the arena. The team who manages to get the most cattle through the gate in order, in the fastest time, wins.
In team penning, a team of three riders race to separate three specific cattle from a herd of 30 and move them down to a pen. There is a time limit of 60–90 seconds, depending on the event and the team can't have an incorrect numbered steer in the pen.
The team of two riders have to move the cattle one at a time from one pen to the other in numerical order, starting with a random number called by the judge. The fastest time wins. If a calf gets from one pen to the other out of order, then the team is disqualified.
Ranch Sorting is an event that pits a team of two riders on horseback against the clock. Teamwork is the key with both riders working in harmony to cut out the correct cattle and drive them to the pen while keeping the wrong numbered cattle back.
Team Sorting The objective is to separate the cows one by one in numerical order, starting with your assigned number. If one cow crosses the “gate” out of sequence, the team is disqualified. There is a time limit of 90 seconds, and the team with the fastest time wins.
Team Sorting is similar to Team Penning, but there are only 10 cattle (each wearing a number, 0-9). Instead of using the entire arena, there is a smaller pen at one end with an opening in the middle for the cattle to move through.
Order of Sorting: The cows are sorted in order; if any part of a numbered cow crosses the start/foul line prior to its correct order, then the team receives a no time. If any part of a sorted cow re-crosses the start/foul line the team will be disqualified.
