Instructions and Help about ideology and form in
Hello everybody welcome to this video I've already made a video on the difference between language and structure and form when looking at the Shakespeare section of the GCSE English literature exam make sure you watch that video because this one very much continues from that as you know the highest mark band in AQA English literature mentions analysis of language and structure and form when you go down to the next mark band it talks about language and/or structure and or form in other words if you want the highest marks one of the things you want to try to do is to not just analyze language which is what I would say 80% of students do but also to make points on structure and form now structure and form are confusing and probably every two or three days somebody sends me a message saying can you explain the difference, so that's what I want to do in this video when looking at poetry the first thing is language now language is the easiest part of literature analysis it's really to do with the specific words or phrases that a writer has chosen I actually think one of the easiest ways into language analysis is just to ask yourself is there a word or a phrase that the writer in this case the poet seems to have deliberately chosen for effect where another word or phrase would have been fine, but they seem to have chosen that one that's a good way to pick your word choice with poetry we're really looking at figurative language as well alliteration metaphor simile personification pathetic fallacy onomatopoeia all of this kind of things and in fact in AQA English language paper one question to the language analysis question for the bullet point that says language features and techniques you're also really looking for figurative language now let me just say at this point there are no marks awarded for just spotting devices, so it's not enough to just find alliteration or find a metaphor you've actually got to explain why it's used and link it to the question and the mark scheme is very severe this year on not awarding you for just sort of finding these things you've got socially link them to your answer to the question, so that's another jump up and make sure you watch my video analysis of every and whether you're studying power and conflict or love and relationships I've got a video analysis of every poem check out my playlists, and you'll see the full explanation of these things when they're used why they're used and of course many more as well now the big issue is to do with the difference between structure and form, so that's what I want to spend most of my time on today so many people struggle with the difference between structure and form and I do understand it and the idea behind form is that it is where a poem follows a certain pattern or has a certain topic or focus and is therefore a certain type of poem now sometimes working out the form of the poem can involve structure points but let me just say to you that the different forms of poem I'll go...
