(soft, lively music) — [Instructor] To save on installation costs Idaho Power offers customers the option to install service conduit for new Single Phase Underground Electrical Services themselves. When the installation is complete, inspected, and all requirements met, Idaho Power will then install the cable and electric meter. This video outlines the steps for a successful project, while at the same time demonstrating Idaho Power's commitment to safety, proper techniques, and use of personal protective equipment. More information is available online at idahopower.com/construction. You must call Dig Line at least two working days before you break ground on your project. Electrical service conduit must have at least 30 inches of cover above the conduit. Call Idaho Power if this depth cannot be achieved. The maximum length allowed for the trench is 125 feet. Measure horizontally along the surface route between Idaho Power's equipment and the meter. If the trench is longer than 125 feet, call Idaho Power. Prior to digging a trench to a power pole, you must first meet with an Idaho Power representative to determine if the pole is adequate for your service, and which side of they must route the conduit toward. Trench backfill material may not contain rocks larger than two inches, or trash. Only use gray colored manufactured bends with a radius of at least 24 inches. Do not form your own bends. Do not use standard radius bends. There is a maximum of 135 degrees total of conduit bends, not including the bends at the meter base and Idaho Power's equipment. Use two inch gray, UL Listed, Schedule 40 PVC for meter bases 200 amps and less. Use three inch diameter conduit for meter bases larger than 200 amps and up to 400 amps. All joints must be completely sealed and permanently glued with PVC Cement. Most Transformers have two or three inch conduit stubs. Expose the end of the stub and connect your new conduit. If the stub marker cannot be found, contact your Idaho Power representative. Do not dig under the Transformer. Most Handholds do not have conduit stubs. It is the Handhold does not have a stub, plumb the conduit into the nearest corner of the Handhold, using a 90 degree bend with at least two inches above the Handhold floor. Some Transformers and Handholds may have been installed with a two inch to three inch conduit adaptor. The adaptors are not glued. So they can be easily removed if they are not needed. If you use the adaptor, glue it to the Idaho Power stub and your conduit. If you don't use the adaptor, leave it on top of the meter base, so it can be reused. Do not change conduit sizes in the run after leaving the adaptor provided at the conduit stub, if one has been provided. Slip couplers are supplied by the customer and installed at the meter base vertical conduit. Install the slip coupler with cement at the top-side of the conduit, so the bottom end of the coupler is free to slip. Schedule 80 PVC is required by the National Electric Code...
