The Irish National Stud is a thoroughbred horse breeding facility in Tully, County Kildare, about one hour west of Dublin. Established in 1946, this institution is owned by the Irish government. It is a must-visit for any lovers of horses, whether racegoers or riders.
The National Stud's breeding syndicates provide you with the opportunity to experience thoroughbred breeding and ownership with unparalleled access and insight. Pedigree analysis, young stock development and bloodstock sales are just some of the areas members can expect to be involved in.
History. The National Stud originated in 1916 from a gift to the British Government by William Hall Walker (later Lord Wavertree) of the entire bloodstock of his stud farm in Tully in County Kildare, Ireland. As part of the arrangement, the British government bought the Irish property from Walker for £47,625.
Visitors to the Irish National Stud can avail of a free guided tour (included with purchase of admission ticket) which runs at regular intervals throughout the day. Please allow 2-3 hours for visit in total to include a self-guided visit to Japanese Gardens & St Fiachra's Garden.
