9/11 Memorial Glade This dedicated space honors the ongoing sacrifice of rescue, recovery, and relief workers, and the survivors and members of the broader lower Manhattan community, who are sick or have died from exposure to toxins at the World Trade Center site in the aftermath of 9/11.
The museum is a must see. I have seen the twin towers before and it made me reflect on a lot of things that has happened between then and now. It really affects everyone that remembers the day like it was yesterday. It was really stunning to see how the original twin towers were made into a memorial fountains.
The 9/11 Museum is absolutely a place I would visit at least once in your life to learn more about this devastating event and its place in American history, as well as to remember those who died. But just because an event is hard to explain or unpleasant to remember doesn't mean it should be ignored.
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum is located at the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan. The memorial is outdoors and free to visit, while the museum requires tickets to access the architectural marvel beneath the memorial plaza.
Memorial Pools According to the architect, Michael Arad, the pools represent “absence made visible.” Although water flows into the voids, they can never be filled.
The Museum is open Wednesday through Monday and select Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visitors are invited to explore at their own pace, but should plan on spending 45-90 minutes here.
Definitely worth it. I'd take a guided tour early in the day so you have time to go back and take more time in the exhibit afterwards. The tour gives you a lot of context. I've been multiple times and learned so much more taking the guided tour that I never would've known otherwise.
Additional Information. The 9/11 Memorial is free and open to the public seven days a week, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Museum tickets can be purchased up to six months in advance and include entry to all available exhibitions.
