The clouds extend more than 6 km above the surrounding surface. In the high region, where temperatures rise to about 23 °C, the cloud features are broad, almost cirrus-like in appearance, and extend over only a few hundreds of meters. The high latitude regions of Nauru show broad-type cirrus-type features, which extend well above the surface, but in the lower troposphere, where the temperature of the air is about 6 °C, the clouds have a characteristic shape, with a central core covered by a large, relatively flat surface. The thick cloud top can be estimated by the observation that the average cloud top depth is 6 km. At high latitudes, the cloud features are broad in the high region, but can become very limited with a temperature of -20 °C. Figure 1.
