The funeral service program at Piedmont tech is one of a kind in South Carolina. The program is well-equipped to give you the hands-on experience needed for a rewarding career in the industry. If you love helping people, your compassionate, and you have the determination and drive you want to help someone to go through the most difficult time, I cannot think of any other career that will be more rewarding than funeral services. There's no typical day for a funeral director and that's the beauty of the profession because it's not the same, it's not routine, it's not mind, it's constantly changing. Each day is different. When you walk in the door you don't know what to expect. A couple of things that we have that are unique about our program we have one embalming lab and cremation lab. And it really gives some good hands on for our students. We're the only school that has Pet Cremation. So we're really proud of that, and it really gives good first-hand knowledge in the cremation process. Our embalming lab give students very get hands-on work, and it's right here on our campus, so they don't have to go away to any of the funeral homes to get that done, so we're really proud of that too. My experience here at Piedmont Tech has been awesome. It has absolutely exceeded my expectations. Each instructor has a different personality; a completely different way of teaching; but each style has a way of helping us grasp the information they're teaching. And I really feel like each teacher has been strategically placed in that particular class. The most impressive aspect of this program is the actual hands-on experience. It's dealing with deceased in front of you. It's hard to get that kind of experience like that unless you're really working in a funeral home, so I think doing removals and doing cremation and working in an actual on campus funeral home was very impressive. The class range from anywhere from 15 to 20 students per class. We have small labs, and we have 1-on-1 interaction with the students. The instructors at Piedmont Tech we believe in open door policy, and we're really available for the students to assist when necessary. I felt like I was always welcome to ask questions or if I had any problems I could call them and talk to them or even drive down there and talk with them. So they were very helpful and instrumental in me being a successful student. You know small classroom feel. The instructors know your name. They know about you. They know where you're from. Furthermore, they know your background as far as if you worked in the funeral home, and it's that sort or intimate setting where you know you do hands on, and you can really get a feel that instructors do care about what you're going to be doing in the future, and they've given you the information you need to pass those boards.
