Once the necessary blood has been drawn, release the vacuum tube or replace the syringe plunger and safely remove the needle from the vein, applying gentle pressure to the puncture site with a cotton ball or gauze.

Dispose of any sharps in a designated sharps container and discard other used materials appropriately.
