Class sizes There's no legal limit to class size for health and safety reasons. To help raise standards in maintained schools, children between 5 and 7 have a maximum class size of 30.
It's illegal for there to be more than 30 children in infant classes where there's only one teacher. This is called the 'infant class size restriction'. Infant classes are those classes of children who will be aged five, six or seven by the end of the academic year.
