How to fill out residential electric water heater

Illustration

How to fill out a residential electric water heater:

01
Turn off the power supply to the water heater by switching off the circuit breaker dedicated to it. This ensures your safety during the filling process.
02
Locate the cold water supply valve near the top of the water heater. It is usually connected to a pipe coming from the wall or floor.
03
Close the cold water supply valve by turning it clockwise to shut off the water flow into the heater.
04
Find the drain valve at the bottom of the water heater. It is usually a brass or plastic valve with a hose connection nearby.
05
Connect a garden hose to the drain valve and make sure the other end is positioned near a drain or outside area where the water can safely drain.
06
Slowly open the drain valve by turning it counterclockwise. This will release the pressure inside the tank and allow the water to flow out through the hose.
07
Once the tank is completely drained, close the drain valve by turning it clockwise.
08
Disconnect the hose and securely close the drain valve.
09
Open a nearby hot water faucet in your home to allow air into the system and assist with the draining process.
10
Locate the pressure relief valve on the side or top of the water heater. Lift or flip the valve open briefly to release any built-up pressure inside the tank.
11
Close the pressure relief valve once all the pressure has been released.
12
Now, you can slowly open the cold water supply valve to allow the tank to fill. Keep an eye on the nearby hot water faucet; once water starts flowing smoothly without any air bubbles, it indicates that the tank is full.
13
Finally, turn on the power supply to the water heater by switching on the circuit breaker.
14
Allow the water heater some time to heat up the newly filled tank before using hot water.
