Qualifying to participate in different AAU events requires specific placement. For instance, to participate in the AAU Junior Olympics Games, an AAU Track and Field Regional Qualifier must finish in the top six of a running event, field event and relay, as well as top four in a multi-event.
AAU uses four ranking divisions which are broken down to belt colors (white, green, brown & black) and rankings respectively (beginner, novice, intermediate & advanced). AAU places athletes into these divisions based on the numbers of years they have trained (rather than by the rank they have earned in the dojo).
If a young athlete is interested in taking part in the YOG, he/she must contact his/her National Olympic Committee (NOC), which will inform him/her of the qualification criteria. The NOC is responsible for managing its delegation during the YOG: National Olympic Committees.
QUALIFICATION: First, second, and third place finishers in approved AAU District Swimming Championship Meets in individual events under 400M, will qualify for the AAU Junior Olympic Games. Swimmers must place in the District Championship in the age division they will compete in during the AAU Junior Olympic Games.
Per USATF Rule 300.1(c) Athletes must be at least seven (7) years of age on December 31 of the current year to compete at the Youth Athletics or Junior Olympic National Championship. ***NOTE*** Kids under 7 may still compete in all other meets!
