How do I get on a Dafne course?
DAFNE can only be offered by a diabetes unit that has DAFNE trained educators and doctors. Any diabetes specialist team looking after people with type 1 diabetes can train to become a DAFNE centre. There are currently no private hospitals delivering DAFNE courses.
Is the Dafne course free?
The RDEP is for diabetes specialist dietitans and diabetes specialist nurses with experience of type 1 diabetes management working in a DAFNE service. The training is provided free of charge. The RDEP is CPD accredited by the British Dietetics Association.
What is the Daphne method?
The DAFNE approach involves testing blood glucose before each meal and calculating quick acting doses according to your blood glucose level and carbohydrate intake. How does Dafne work?

How long is the Dafne course?
DAFNE involves attending a 5-day training course (9am to 5pm Monday to Friday) plus a follow-up session around 8 weeks after the course. The structured teaching programme is delivered to groups of 6-8 participants under the supervision of DAFNE-trained Educators.

A face-to-face DAFNE course is run over five days – this can be either over one week (Monday to Friday) or spread over five weeks. If you attend DAFNE online, it will take five weeks to complete.
