How to Fill Out New I-9:

Section 2 of the form should be completed by the employer. This section must be filled out within three business days of the employee's first day of employment. The employer must physically examine the employee's original documents establishing their identity and employment authorization.

Acceptable documents include a U.S. passport, Permanent Resident Card, employment authorization document, or combinations of documents listed on the Form I-9. The employer should record the document title, document number, and expiration date (if applicable) in Section 2.

The employer must also provide their business name, address, and the date of hire in Section 2. They should then sign and date the form.

If the employee's employment authorization expires, the employer should reverify their work authorization by completing Section 3 of the form.

Remember to retain the completed Form I-9 for as long as the employee is working for you, and for at least three years after their date of hire or one year after their employment ends (whichever is longer).
