Instructions and Help about lower extremity functional form

Ok so now were going to go through our functional or lower limb functional assessments, and you could do this as you're doing an active range at the start and the process of a screening process and just have a look at movements and I love these sorts of tests because it tests lots of things at one time, and you can just have a look at how someone moves, and I think dynamically, and you want to really assess how they're moving dynamically is hugely important to all this pain and dysfunction, so first I'm going to go through is just a squat simple squat so going to get peevish ok, so again I would just instruct the client I want you to squat down keeping your feet facing 30-30 many forwards I like to say naught to about 5 degrees ok, so we don't know two feet to be flayed splayed out to the side and I just want you to squat down and hips level with knees just squat yourself down one more so what I'll be looking at with the squat is I'd be looking at what's happening at the feet is there at any excess pronation going on at either foot I'm looking at the knees to see whether the knees drop inwards into a ducted and internally rotated position or the hip be internally rotated if those needs to drop it in from the side I can look at and spine position so can I keep the spine upright all the hips going down level with the knees and what you'll find with a lot of people is that their heels will lift so that they're got stiffness in the ankles and again what you could do with people that put something underneath their heels and see whether that immediately makes a difference their squat technique and from that you could say well ok if we can get the ankles a more mobile than it's going to improve their squat position because all we've done is change the length of the course and got them to score again and again I'll be looking on some people I'll allow them to have their hands out in front of well so again if we did that one more time he's just hands out in front and just squat from there so again a lot of people will find that easier because basically you're giving them a little more support or the center of mass comes forward a little because a lot of people will find get down that low over balances and backwards, so again I'm looking at all those different things how they do the movement whether there's pain when they do the movement so are they getting any pain or discomfort you know a lot of people you'll find especially with any sort of pain or discomfort in their lower limbs are going to squat really poorly so again then straightaway you can look at that other thing is hips so if they can't get their knees out in line with their second toe then you'd be looking at potentially some hip range of motion issues, so I think with the squat the things for me that I look at all the time is I go on to look at ankle mobility hip and mobility thoracic spine mobility in order to see okay if they pop or squat which of those things is affecting them what...
