Hi everybody I'm so excited to talk to you today with summer just along the horizon a couple more weeks away um I wanted you to be aware that you will be receiving a NWEA and of your crazy to think were almost at the end of the year student report and on that report you will see your children estimated luck says level and in addition if your child is in reading intervention you'll also receive a progress report from me with their founts and Linnell reading level and so parents are often confused by these levels understandably so-and-so I do think it is important that we take some time today to discuss what reading levels are and what they're not so Exile and founts and Linnell are a little different lack style is a mathematically determined level so what that means is when your child is taking NWEA based upon what they can do as far as understanding the text when they take NWEA they're reading a variety of passages and responding to comprehension questions and those passages are leveled so based upon their comprehension of each passage we can kind of determine what level they can comprehend effectively, and we can also determine based upon some questions grammatically that are asked of them what their vocabulary strengths are and what their ability to decode text is and so based upon that you will get your children Exile reader measure and so the Leno reader measure tells you an estimate on what complex text level your child can effectively read and so the BR Led at level stands for beginning reader and that's the earliest level of Exile and then the numbered Lux isles range from 0 to 2000 when you see books tagged with Exile levels the number is often followed by it but a letter L so for a book that had an Exile of 600 for example it would say 600 L and that means that it's that level okay, so that's Exile reader measure and then the book measure is a readability measure, and it is based upon a mathematical equation that takes into account the vocabulary, and it takes into account the complexity of words are they most often heard, or they know more tricky vocabulary words that readers are may encounter trouble with that sort of thing and so that's important to know that it's a deluxe a level that's determined by NWEA it's not determined by somebody sitting down and listening to your child to read that level of text, but it is a good place to start to keep in mind that that is only a starting point, and I'll talk a little about what Exile is and what it isn't in just a moment, but first I want to talk to you about fonts in Final so founts and Linnell is another leveling system it's similar to Exile in that it is based upon the readability of text that your child may encounter as a reader um, but it is determined in a little of a different way so founts and Linnell assessments are done one on one so if I were going to give a student founts and Linnell test I would most likely already know the student and know similar place of where to start okay,...
