You are allowed to work part time or off and on during your parental leave if your employer agrees. However, a certain amount can then be subtracted from your benefits. If you decide to work during your maternity leave, the income you earn at work can be completely deducted from your benefits.
For example, the birth mother may choose to take 52 weeks of parental leave and the other parent may choose to take 10 weeks, at either the same time or later. If you and the other parent both work for the same employer, the employer can refuse to give you time off together.
Under the Childcare Development Co-savings Act Both parents can each get 6 days per year of childcare leave until the year their child turns 7 years old, regardless of the number of children they have. Childcare leave is capped at 42 days for each parent.
Hence, the grant of child care leave to the appellant cannot be used to disentitle her to maternity leave under Rule 43 of the Rules of 1972.
Compassionate care leave (unpaid) As an employee, you can take up to 28 weeks of compassionate care leave within a 52-week period to look after a family member who has a serious medical condition with a significant risk of death.
You are eligible for Government-Paid Childcare Leave (GPCL) if you meet the following requirements: Your child is below 7 years old. Your child is a Singapore citizen. For employees: you have served your employer for at least 3 continuous months.
To that end, any employee who just wants to take a break from work for no reason at all, or who wants to take a sabbatical or anything like that has no protection under the law if they elect to take a leave. An employer can refuse to allow such a leave of absence.
