Instructions and Help about philosophy of christian education

So my talk is a little different it goes a little different direction than we've seen today, but I'm hoping to tie it all in by the end which is how my talks usually work if you've seen that before I want to talk about education in the age of change and particularly in terms of how technology is guiding and changing what we're doing as educators I've done a few technology talks before I'm hoping that this one is going to be able different, and I decided to create my name just for this one so if you're enjoying them or not let me know later as we know and as we've seen today our world is changing and technologies is a root cause of that we've got many technologies coming to the forefront and our students and ourselves really faced with many changes as we go through our lives and technology is the root of that there's a few new technologies these are not ones that are cutting-edge these are ones that you are probably familiar with in fact you can see a digital printer a 3d printer up at the top you've got Minecraft in the middle there all the young kids laugh and then the leap motion that enables you to actually move yourself physically into a digital space by hovering your hands above this little machine all of these things create interaction between two worlds, and so we've got a digital printer where you can take something physically out of a digital world and create something physical in our world you've got something where you can craft whatever you'd like digital play playground play about play box I used to call it Lego when I was a kid now you don't have to pretend that it's an actual farm it can be a farm and then the leap motion that allows you to interact with things inside the computer which is still baffling me to this day I've got one, and I still can't use it effectively yet but education is at a crossroads because of this because these technologies actually have the ability to do some of the things we do as educators better than we do and that's a scary proposition for teachers because industries change based on technology coming out, and I wanted to give you two quick examples in industry and I did a lot of research on futurism and how things change and when we talk about industry's changing there are two things that happen you can either have a competence destroying technology which means that the initial structure of the business falls apart new technologies introduced and is better than the previous one, or you can have a competence enhancing technology where the technology actually is blended into the system and makes the system more effective so which do you think I'm hoping for so competence destroying technologies work like this there was a great example that I came that I read about, and I found it in a few different places I wanted to share it with you glassblowing from about the 14th century up to the early 20th century most windows looked something like that and what you would have is in your town or village or even a...
