Hi I'm Jay Matheson with Midlands audio Institute and the jam room recording studio, and I'm here at front-end audio today to talk about the digit row 3 and this is the rack version and this is a one of their FireWire based interfaces and the difference between their FireWire based interfaces and the USB basic ones is these will operate at higher sample rates you can use 88 to sample rates 96k sample rates with the OF 3 where on some of their smaller interfaces that are USB based they're not going to be able to open and run sessions at 96k sample rates, so that's one advantage of stepping up from the smaller USB type interfaces to this one also you'll get a lot less latency when you use the FireWire based ones all right a little about that and let's see what we've got here on the front we have four channels of mic preamp and here we have the selector between Mike and line and I think there is a high-pass filter here to cut the excess lows when you're tracking vocals and such all you have two separate headphone outputs here each with its own separate volume and there are they actually have facility here to send separate headphone mixes to the two separate headphone outputs and this is the level the control where you send a level out to your monitors and that's basically all we have on the front panel other than some indicator lights and of course the power button so let's spin it around to the back and see what we have all right as you can see we have our four mic inputs, but then we also have four more analog line inputs, so the digit oh three has eight analog inputs you basically can run for line level and if you have four channels of extra mic preamp you can run for more microphone inputs like that, so you have four mic inputs for line level ones if you want to run eight microphones into this you can get an of a four channel mic PRE and work it that way another thing that you can do is we have also we have your optical you a tête-à-tête optical input as well that will allow you to send via light pipe eight more channels of digital audio in, so you can have something like an outboard piece that has eight mic preamps and has light pipe out meaning that would have the analog to digital converter built into it take the output of that run it into the light pipe and all of a sudden you would have not only these eight inputs but eight more inputs and right here you also have a spit if input which is a two channel digital input and if you have a two channel mic preamp with a spit if digital out you could run even two more into that so if you get this interface it is there is potential to run as many as 18 simultaneous inputs and that's a big question I'm sure a lot of people have about this and also there are some extra outputs you have eight analog out here you have alternate output and spit if in and out you have word clock in and out saying if you want to use an external word clock generator a lot of companies make this Apogee and quite a few...
