Step 2: Complete sections 1 to 4 of the Form I-983, providing accurate information about your employer, the proposed training opportunity, and your obligations as a STEM OPT student.

Step 3: Review and sign the completed Form I-983.

Step 4: Submit the signed Form I-983 to your DSO.

Step 5: Once your DSO reviews and approves the Form I-983, they will issue you a new Form I-20 with a STEM OPT extension recommendation.

Step 6: Apply for a STEM OPT extension by submitting the required documents to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) within the specified timeframe.

Step 7: Wait for USCIS to review and process your application. If approved, you will receive a STEM OPT Employment Authorization Document (EAD) card.

Step 8: Start working for your employer under the terms of the approved STEM OPT period.

Step 9: Maintain regular communication with your DSO and employer, fulfilling your reporting obligations as required by the STEM OPT program.
