Hey there John Morris here John Morris online.com and welcome to another episode of the john Morris show and in this episode I'm going to be covering another code snippet, so I'm going to be talking about how to insert form data into a sequel database using PHP and my ex — why I'm doing this because like this is probably one of the most often asked questions I get, and it's a tutorial I have here on YouTube it is a little older and people sometimes have trouble getting the data to actually insert into the database and I get asked all the time what the issue is, so I'm I want to actually make a video where I walk through this step by step and show you the hang-ups and where you can run into trouble when inserting form data into a database, so that's what I'll be covering for this episode be sure to stay tuned alright so to start this off and actually before I do if you are looking for the source code that I'm using here I do make it available I will cover how to get that at the end of this video alright so to start off I created a very simple table here inside my database, so I have these snippets' database I have a tape table named user and inside it, I just have three columns ID name and email now the ID is the primary key it's set up to auto increment, so we actually won't ever insert any data into this one it's just to give us to number our rows essentially our name and email or the two that we're going to primarily be SET inserting data into, and we'll cover how to do that, so that's the database structure it's very, very simple that you can set up in two seconds really alright so then over into our code you can see down here I've created a very, very simple form and in that form I have really two inputs and the first one is to collect the name which is right here and the name of that input is name and this one here is to collect the email and the name of that is email and so then I have a bunch of PHP code up here that will go through when I submit this form then it will insert that data into of the database now before I actually go through this code and show you that the first thing that I want to make clear is that there's's two separate things there's your form fields which are these right here in your form that you create here and then there's your database columns which are these here, so those are two separate entities that you need to match up essentially and that's what you do inside your PHP code, so you need to take the data that's submitted in your form in your form fields and insert it into the columns inside your database table, and again you have to match those up they're not automatically matched up and that's really the problem that I see a lot of people running into is not quite sure how to match those things up and so that's what I'm going to show you how to do here now to make this clear again I'll come over here to this page, and I've set this to just print out our form data first so if I enter my name and email so name...
