This paper explores these differences by analyzing the impact of such a scenario as the case of an MS station facing two APs. We present a model which determines both the optimal number of MS base stations, the number of APs required for a successful handover, and the optimal number of devices that are active at any given time for MS handover. These results show that MS base stations can maintain coexistence with both macro diversity and fast base station switching at rates up to four times faster than the state-of-the-art (1.25 ms max throughput over three APs).
